100 Days of Happiness
When Kaili contacted me for Claire's three month milestone pictures she mentioned something about 100 days old. I wasn't sure what it meant, but recently had another family who also had a 100 day old milestone session for their baby girl. When Claire and her family arrived I had to inquire why 100 days, not newborn or not six months. I was given the explanation but here it is as taken from Wikipedia, "Baek-il is celebrated on the 100th day after a child’s birth. Long ago in Korea, childhood diseases were common and the survival rate for children was very low. To protect their children, parents refrained from taking the baby outdoors until the 100th day after his or her birth. It is not until baek-il that the baby was introduced to neighbors, friends and relatives. One of the baek-il’s special events is the parents providing rice cakes, called baekseolgi, to at least 100 people. They believe this event helps to protect the child’s life. They also pray for the child’s continued good health". I find it so interesting that every culture and religion has so many of it's own customs and traditions going back to long ago when they made perfect sense in their time frame.
Claire's session was not without hiccups, I didn't know but the scheduled time had been her nap time. Not something I generally recommend as they tend to be cranky, over tired and over all hysterical. Needless to say, Claire wasn't having it after the first 10 minutes or so. We were afraid that we'd have to call it a bust and reschedule during another time if her parents didn't have enough images to choose for their final gallery, but in the end...a little classical music, mommy/daddy snuggles and the oh so amazing Baby Shusher did their trick in calming her down and even giving us some adorable smiles and tongue captures.
I adore this milestone age, they are so unpredictable (like any age group really) but they are just starting to express themselves and their facial expressions are to die for!!
Thank you for choosing me for your very special milestone session, I hope to see you again for future ones.
