Cozy Holiday Memories at Home: A Lifestyle Tree Decorating Session

Cozy In-Home Holiday Tree Decorating Session | Lifestyle Family Photography with Alina Renert There’s something truly magical about documenting the real moments — the laughter, the chaos, and the quiet snuggles that make a family unique. This in-home holiday session with one of my favorite families of five was exactly that kind of magic.

In previous years, we’ve done cozy pajama sessions, cookie decorating, and playful outdoor fall portraits. This time, we decided to bring the holiday joy right into their living room with a lifestyle Christmas tree decorating session — twinkle lights, ornaments, giggles, and all.

In-home sessions are about comfort, connection, and authenticity. Instead of posing in front of a backdrop, families get to be themselves. Kids are more relaxed and engaged when they’re in their own space — they know where the toys are, the snacks are handy, and they can run, jump, and laugh without holding back.

Parents love that these sessions capture their family’s story exactly as it is — from the way everyone piles onto the couch for a cuddle, to the spontaneous tickle fights that happen between takes.

A Little Prep Goes a Long Way

The only bit of “work” for an in-home lifestyle session is prepping your space ahead of time. A quick tidy-up, hiding away items you don’t want in the background, and setting out your favorite decorations or blankets can help the session flow beautifully. But don’t stress — perfection isn’t the goal. Real moments are.

Your home doesn’t have to look like a magazine spread — it just needs to feel like you.

The Gift of Cozy Memories

This holiday tree decorating session was filled with laughter, little hands carefully (and sometimes clumsily!) placing ornaments, and family snuggles between the silliness. These are the kinds of memories that become family traditions — moments that tell your story year after year.

If you’ve ever thought about an in-home lifestyle session, the holidays are the perfect time. Whether it’s baking cookies, decorating the tree, or simply spending time together, these sessions are all about capturing the warmth and connection that define your family.
