"Life isn’t about finding yourself.

Life is about creating yourself" - George Bernard Shaw

I was fortunate enough to be able to mentor with Brittney Shey Photography. I had met Brittney in a photographer group where we help one another, build each other up and provide support.

I had been talking with Brittney months prior to actually mentoring with her and I already knew I had made a friend not just met a wonderful teacher. I strongly believe those that are selfless and giving go a lot further in life than those to are selfish and cut throat. This is who Brittney is, an amazing teacher, supporter, guidance counselor of sorts and a vault of knowledge.

As I arrived in Nashville, Brittney picked me up and we went to grab a very late dinner. We weren't even able to really talk 'shop' as we had so many similarities in our personal lives despite being worlds apart. I happened to arrive during Easter weekend and we had many conversations surrounding religion and cultures as I'm a Russian Jewish immigrant to Chicago. Despite any differences we had bonded and learned from one another our customs and cultural differences and had a blast throughout the process. She even allowed me to snuggle with her dog Max since I was homesick for my pup. It's the little things in life I tell ya ;)

On the day of the mentoring, we had two newborn models lined up and it just so happened that one of the model's moms fell ill that very morning. Brittney instantly was able to arrange for another model to come in that same day so I would have the experience of working with both a boy and a girl newborn while mentoring.

Everyone has their talents and strengths and that's very true of Brittney's passion and love for working with newborns, people and it comes as second nature to her. The ease in which she rocks and coocoo's a little one while posing them gently is a gift! Every step of the way she was there to explain, show and guide me through the process. I didn't feel overwhelmed or confused because she was there to explain it perfectly the first time around.

She encouraged me and helped me feel confident in myself. I'm forever grateful for everything I was able to learn, her support since I've arrived back home but also in gaining another trustful friend who simply 'gets' it.

I highly recommend mentoring with Brittney if the means are available - this is an experience worth every penny and moment.

Thanks a million Britt!!
